Art Sale and the arrival of new SMC Broad Stage

I've come down with bronchitis
and have been home on the mend
since Saturday.

But I was hellbent to get to the Art Sale at Santa Monica
college.

The morning clouds
look like giant blimps
in the air....the arctic
chill funnelled in this
amazing white cloud
chiffon, almost like
a toothpaste trail...

But the new building
blew me away...

It is the Broad theater
and will hold 499 people
and a smaller one - the
Edye which takes only 99.
All seed money came from
big doners like Eli Broad
and Dustin Hoffman, who
went to college at SMC.

Dazzling
numbers of
pieces to partake -
From drawings of
zoo animals to
people watching,
it is a joy to behold.

I found some small
pieces to my liking...
little blown glass
vases and a few
gifty items.

I was taken by this
Tiffany-lampish
type ceramic light.
Almost lotus-like...

But when I went to my doctor who
put me on bedrest, and gave
me codeine laden cough syrup
to quell my cough...and a strip
of antibiotics, called a z-packet...

I had to laugh, because those doc's just had to cover all their bases
with their ode to the holidays display.

Full moon and walk in the park

Went on a walking tour through my little town in Playa del Rey, with the local conservationist - Robert Jan "Roy" van de Hoek. He filled us with stories of the Ruddy Turnstiles, the Pacific Loon and let us check out out lagoon with his spot scope. Impressively the moon was about as close as it ever has been to Earth, it made it far bigger and brighter in our night sky. NASA stated that the full moon was 30% brighter and far larger than any other full moon we are going to see in these 12 months.

The Earth’s next close encounter with a full moon is eight years away, on November 14, 2016.

Dream a little dream

Cue the lights....

Drop in and dream
on this blow out
the
candles
kind
of day.

For reals.

Your weekend - This is what 120 miles looks like.

Well, MCI had me and my mother
over a barrel.

"We might come out
to fix your phone on Saturday... but
then again, it could be Sunday."

Not to mention that this was already
a 10 day saga in the making...
and still calls to MCI-via-Manilla
to tell us of the non-conclusive
information.

Final fix came in a 3pm Sunday, when the
sister telephone carrier AT&T, jumped
into a jump suit and under the
house to find the 'missing' control
box, where all lines are fastened.

Oooops, something
frayed....

Ok, well "we fixed it."

So....here's the view....enjoy the ride.

Sunny side down

What serendipity....

on my last turn down
to the end of the day
I saw this.

It's just as random
as those plastic
bags flying in
the movie,
Magnolia

and a whole
lot more peaceful
than say thousands
of frogs dropping.

Glad this busy
week is winding
down.

Roads stretching out into the night

Here's a bit of a continuation on crosstown
traffic...

What's compelling is the
comparison I find between these large
expanses of overhead concrete
and the sheer mass of dirigibles.

Dirigibles were popular in the
30's but when the Hindenberg
went down, so went the industry.

But the slow flying machines
overhead - overtaken in time by
a mangle of roads and cars
and lights and curves.

More cars than buses....each
destination pinpointed...
and commandeered by
the "get me home" ethos.

Must say I like getting
home, whenever I'm in
miles of road.

Fog bound

Opaqued skies

add volumes

to the vista

Misty
backdrops
- doughy
like
plush
dolls

Until
the sun
erupts
through

Palms stand
tall and sway
mid the
foggy
embankments
of chalk
white.

Tender are the
dreams of a dream world
here.
