Memorial day at Santa Monica Beach

Early on my bike ride, I got to see the start of a brilliant day with American Flags, colorful umbrellas and a gaggle of athletes parading by the beach.

It is a day for all of us to pay our respects to those fallen soldiers who paid the ultimate price.

In a world that has deployed American soldiers for over a decade, most Americans feel a heartfelt sense of patriotism.

Movie at the Cemetery

Angelinos come out for a Billy Wilder film, "Sabrina" starring Audrey Hepburn, William Holden and Humphrey Bogart. It was a real Cinderella story and somebody gets the girl!

Audrey Hepburn plays the ingenue who is always longing for the powerful Larrabee's son.

Groups huddle and picnic side-by-side and once darkness hits, the movie starts.

Palm trees adorn the grounds at Hollywood Forever Cemetery

As we leave, hip music blasts through the headstones and as living exit the grounds.

It was a bizarre mix of hip and macabre, all in the name of fun.

solar eclipse

The Solar eclipse occurred around 6:35pm on Sunday 5.20.12. I got to see it from a plane...and even with the fog and clouds surrounding Los Angeles, it was perhaps even better to be able to see it.

Like this little boy, we all got a ringside seat.
